Ivory Coast Lawmakers Approve Bill for New Electoral Body

(Bloomberg) -- Ivory Coast's national assembly passed a law to establish a new electoral body ahead of presidential elections in 2020.

The new electoral commission will consist of 15 members, compared to 17 in its current setup. The state and the ruling party will get five representatives, while the opposition and civil-society organizations will have five representatives each.

The bill passed with 124 against 78 votes. Many opposition members oppose the new structure, saying it favors the ruling RHDP coalition.
