The Thane Municipal Corporation on Friday presented a Rs 5,645 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, focusing on urban development, citizen welfare, and financial stability.

The budget, 12.9% higher than last year’s Rs 5,000 crore outlay, was submitted to Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, who also serves as the administrator.

Rao said there would be no new taxes or hikes, with revenue growth expected through improved tax compliance. The civic body aims to generate Rs 841.58 crore from property and other taxes, Rs 650.8 crore from development charges, and Rs 1,441.79 crore from GST and grants.

Key allocations include Rs 80 crore under AMRUT 2.0 for urban renewal, Rs 132 crore for the Rajiv Gandhi Medical College building and staff quarters, and Rs 3 crore for Anand Ashram area development. The budget also earmarks Rs 285 crore to enhance public transport, improve municipal schools, and manage solid waste.

With a surplus of Rs 66 lakh, TMC aims to make Thane a self-sufficient and self-reliant city in the next 4-5 years, Rao said.
