Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced the launch of a single smart card — ‘Mumbai One’ — designed to function across various modes of transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Fadnavis stated that the architecture for the Mumbai One card will be finalised within a month.

"We have got approval to integrate Railways into it by the Ashwiniji today; the card will enable seamless travel across the Metro, Monorail, local trains, and public buses in Mumbai and MMR regions," Fadnavis said, addressing the press conference.

Modelled on London’s Oyster card, the initiative aims to simplify and streamline the daily commute for millions of Mumbaikars.

“Commuters will be able to use the single card for suburban railway, Metro, monorail, buses, and even other modes of transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,” he said.

He also mentioned that discussions have already been held with the railway minister to facilitate the onboarding of suburban railways.

“The necessary work will be completed within a month’s time,” CM Fadnavis said.

Speaking about Konkan Railway, CM Fadnavis said that he had requested the railways to merge the Konkan Railway into Indian Railways to improve its finances.

Fadnavis also highlighted that 132 railway stations are set to be renovated. "Rs 1.73 lakh by the central government has been allotted for railway infrastructure in Maharashtra," he said.

In a boost to tourism, the Chief Minister also announced the upcoming Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit Train, which will take passengers through historic locations and forts associated with the Maratha warrior king.

"A special tour focusing on the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being planned which will take you to different forts for around 10 days and it will also help connect important places of historical importance," he said.
