Mumbai Coastal Road Crash: 18-Year-Old Rams Into Fashion Influencer’s Mercedes
Fashion influencer Sonam Babani was travelling from Marine Drive to Prabhadevi with her husband when her Mercedes car was hit.
A pregnant woman sustained multiple injuries after an 18-year-old driver rammed into her car inside Mumbai’s Coastal Road tunnel on Sunday night. The incident took place around 10:50 p.m. at gate no 8 near Malabar Hill of the Coastal Road tunnel.
The woman has been identified as prominent fashion influencer Sonam Babani. She was travelling from Marine Drive to Prabhadevi with her husband when her Mercedes car was hit. The accused driver has been identified as 18-year-old Vyom Manish Poddar from Bhuleshwar, according to a Times of India report.
Poddar, a student with a valid driving licence, lost control of his car, injuring the 33-year-old pregnant influencer, a Lokmat Times report mentioned, citing a police officer. Babani was quickly rushed to the Breach Candy Hospital after the accident and was discharged later. She sustained injuries on her leg, face, head and back.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against Poddar under BNS sections 281 and 125(A) for rash driving and endangering life, police said. He also received a notice under section 35(3) of the BNSS and has been asked to appear in court.
It is unclear if Poddar was driving under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place. An investigation has been launched into the incident and more details are awaited.
Last month, a government official’s SUV overturned inside the Coast Road tunnel. Food inspector Vikas Sonawane from Kolhapur was driving to Mantralaya when the mishap occurred. He sustained minor injuries in the accident.
This was the third such accident in the past five months, according to a Hindustan Times report. The latest accident has again raised concerns among commuters over the prominent tunnel turning into an accident spot.

Babani, known as ‘fashioneiress’ on social media platform Instagram, is a digital content creator. She has over 2 lakh followers on Instagram.
Her Instagram bio suggests that Babani is a wellness celebrity stylist and luxury consultant. She was featured in GQ’s 100 Best Dressed and Luxebook’s 50 Most Powerful Women list.
