The Government of Maharashtra has declared a local holiday in Mumbai and suburban districts on Friday, Dec. 6, on account of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
All government and semi-government offices in Mumbai and suburban areas will remain closed on account of Mahaprainirvan Diwas.
Every year, Maharashtra pays tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar on his death anniverasary, which is observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas. Special events will be held at Chaitya Bhoomi in Dadar, Mumbai, on Dec. 6 to pay tribute the architect of Indian Constitution.
Are Banks Closed In Maharashtra Today?
Since Mahaparinirvan Diwas is a local holiday and not a public holiday, banks across Maharashtra will remain open. All public and private sector banks will continue to function as usual on Dec. 6.

Dec. 3, Tuesday: Feast of St. Francis Xavier - Banks will be closed in Goa.
Dec. 12, Thursday: Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma - Banks will be closed in Meghalaya.
Dec. 18, Wednesday: Death Anniversary of U SoSo Tham - Banks will be closed in Meghalaya.
Dec. 19, Thursday: Goa Liberation Day - Banks will be closed in Goa.
Dec. 24, Tuesday: Christmas Eve - Banks will be closed in Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
Dec. 25, Wednesday: Christmas - Banks will be closed across India.
Dec. 26, Thursday: Christmas Celebration - Banks will be closed in Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Dec. 27, Friday: Christmas Celebration - Banks will be closed in Nagaland.
Dec. 30, Monday: U Kiang Nangbah - Banks will be closed in Meghalaya.
Dec. 31, Tuesday: New Year’s Eve/Lossong/Namsoong - Banks will be closed in Sikkim and Mizoram.
Other than these holidays, banks will be closed for five Sundays (Dec. 8, Dec. 15, Dec. 22, and Dec. 29), second Saturday (Dec. 14) and fourth Saturday (Dec. 28).
This means that banks will remain closed for up to 17 days across India in December. However, for information on a bank holiday in a specific state, it is advisable to check with your nearest branch as bank holidays vary from state to state or visit the RBI website for updated holiday list.
