Janmashtami 2025 Bank Holiday: The festival of Janmashtami, which marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, is going to be celebrated this week. As per the Hindu calendar, Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapad.
The Ashtami Tithi will start at 11:49 p.m. on Aug. 15 and end at 9:34 p.m. on Aug. 16, as per Drik Panchang. So, Janmashtami celebrations could he held over two days in many states as per regional calendars. This could lead to confusion about the bank holiday on Janmashtami.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday list, banks across India will remain closed on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16 on account of Independence Day and Janmashtami.
On Aug. 15, banks will be closed due to Independence Day, as well as to mark Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) and Janmashtami. In many states, it’s a public holiday on Aug. 16 on account of Janmashtami. So, banks will remain closed in several states on Saturday.
Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays every month as well as on Sundays. Hence, banks will be closed on Aug. 23 as well.
Even though bank branches stay closed on public holidays, customers can still carry out transactions through digital banking. Facilities like ATMs, UPI transfers, internet banking and other online services remain available on bank holidays.
