Indian equity benchmarks extended rally for the third consecutive trading session, its longest stretch of losing streak in a month. The BSE Sensex closed over 600 points higher to end above 76,700. The NSE Nifty 50 ended 0.8% higher to settle at 23,777. Intraday, the 30-stock index had risen as much as 1.2% or 929 points and the 20-share index rose as much as 1.2%.

In the currency markets, The rupee ended at a record-closing low of 92.63 against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, crude oil prices fell on reports of US inventories rise. Brent is down $1.15, or 1.11%, at $102.27 a barrel, while  WTI has dropped $1.54, or 1.6%, to $94.67. US crude stocks increased by 6.56 million barrels for the week ended March 13, Reuters reported on Wednesday quoting market sources.

  • Goldman Sachs expects the rupee to weaken to 95 against the US dollar over the next year, citing pressure from the Iran conflict and a widening current account deficit.
  • The brokerage said higher oil prices and a weaker rupee could push up inflation and may later put pressure on the RBI to tighten policy. On Wednesday, the rupee traded at 92.4375 against the dollar, near a record low close of 92.4575 on Friday.
  • Goldman last week cut India’s growth forecast for this year to 6.5% from 7% and raised its inflation estimate by 30 basis points. It also expects the current account deficit to widen to 1.2% of GDP.

Stock Market Live: NSE Said To Fix IPO Advisory Fee At 0.65%

  • NSE has set advisory fees at about 0.65% of the issue size for its planned IPO, according to a report by Bloomberg. Based on an expected deal size of about $2.5 billion, the total fee pool could be about $16.25 million, the report said.
  • Bloomberg had earlier reported that the IPO could raise about $2.5 billion through a sale of 4% to 4.5% equity.
