Stock Market Today: Nifty, Sensex Witness Worst Session In Eight Months

• Rupee closes 32 paise weaker at 87.52 against US Dollar 

• Intraday, the rupee fell 35 paise weaker at 87.54 against US Dollar

• It closed at 87.20 a dollar on Thursday.

• Nifty and Sensex end lower on Friday.

• Intraday, both Nifty and Sensex had fallen nearly 2%.

• Nifty ends 1.86% or 418.70 points down at 22,124.70.

• Sensex ends 1.90% or 1,414.33 points lower at 73,198.10.

• Broader indices also closed lower. Nifty Midcap 100 ended 2.35% lower; Nifty Smallcap 250 closed 2.50% lower.

• All sectoral indices fell with Nifty IT falling the most.

• Nifty Pharma falls third day in a row, led by granules, gland pharma.

• Nifty IT falls seventh day in a row; records worst day in nearly two years.

• Nifty FMCG falls 2nd day in a row led by Godrej consumer, Tata Consumer.

• HDFC Bank Ltd., Shriram Finance Ltd., and Coal India Ltd. emerged as the top gainers for the day.

• On the other hand, Infosys Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., and ICICI Bank Ltd. were the worst performers of the Nifty 50 index.

The shares of Cartrade Tech, Shaily Engineering and Dixon Tech were trading in the green, while TBO Tek, Greaves Cotton and Afcons Infra were in the red on Friday.

The Indian rupee was down 3 paise after the Reserve Bank of India released the results of its $10 billion forex swap auction.

The central bank received bids worth $16.23 billion from 244 sources. It accepted 161 of those. The weighted average premium of accepted bids was Rs 6.7329.
