Stock Market News Today Hihglights: Hello and welcome to NDTV Profit's live coverage of stock market news today, with the top market directions in India, Asia Pacific and the West. From pre-market signals to the most buzzing stocks in trade, we bring you all top developments from D-Street to keep you updated throughout the day. After the tech selloff in US markets and fresh US-Israel-Iran geopolitical tensions, domestic benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 swung to losses on Monday.

Domestic equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 slipped in trade, pausing after their longest weekly winning streak of 2026, as concerns over a weak monsoon blunted relief from easing Middle East tensions and lower crude prices. The retreat also reflected fatigue after a three-week rally, with analysts saying softer oil and rupee-support measures were largely priced in.

"Profit booking persisted near key psychological levels as investors remained cautious about the sustainability of the interim US-Iran peace agreement. The market currently lacks clear near-term direction, with expectations for the Q1FY27 earnings season remaining subdued amid supply constraints, persistent inflationary pressures, and a weak monsoon outlook, all of which are likely to weigh on margins,'' said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Ltd.

Nifty 50 snapped its two-day winning streak to settle 78 points lower or 0.32% at 23,977, while the BSE Sensex settled 312 points or 0.40% lower at 76,788.27. Persistent Systems share price tumbled over 11% to its lowest level since April 2024 on the Nagarro deal. Analysts highlighted that overall, selling was broad-based; however, defensive sectors such as pharma and healthcare outperformed, supported by their inelastic demand profile and earnings visibility.

''Investors remain cautious ahead of the upcoming US nonfarm payrolls data, which could influence the US Fed's policy trajectory and either reinforce or temper prevailing expectations of further rate hikes. A moderation in FII outflows in the domestic market, coupled with a normalisation of the global AI-driven market exuberance, could act as incremental triggers for improved market sentiment going forward,'' said Vinod Nair of Geojit.

Analysts believe that there are two more factors that can continue to support the market. One, relentless FII selling which has been weighing on markets has abated. During the last nine trading days, FIIs were buyers in the cash market, though by small amounts. Two, the South Korean and Taiwanese markets, which have been attracting massive investments have turned weak and excessively volatile. Last week India outperformed both South Korea and Taiwan.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Rupee falls nine paise to close at 94.54 against US dollar

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: The rupee pared initial gains and settled lower by nine paise at 94.54 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as renewed geopolitical tensions hit investors' risk appetite.

Forex traders said the rupee opened on a positive note with crude oil prices remaining supportive and foreign inflows improving, but a renewed flare-up in geopolitical tensions after fresh military exchanges between the US and Iran dented investor sentiment.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 94.36, then gained momentum and touched an intraday high of 94.25 and a low of 94.56 against the American currency. At the end of Monday's trade, the rupee was quoted at 94.54 (provisional), down by 9 paise over its previous close.

"We expect the rupee to trade with a negative bias on renewed geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran. Overall strength in the US dollar on hawkish Fed may also pressurise the rupee.

"However, a decline in crude oil prices and easing concerns over inflation may support the rupee at lower levels. USDINR spot price is expected to trade in a range of 94.20 to 94.80," said Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst, Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 101.28, down 0.07 per cent. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading higher by 1.26 per cent at USD 72.90 per barrel in futures trade.

Iran again launched drone and missile attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait on Sunday following new US airstrikes against the Islamic Republic. Iran has threatened a "complete halt" in negotiations to end the war if Washington continues its attacks.

Meanwhile, India's forex reserves increased by USD 963 million to USD 672.587 billion during the week ended June 19, the RBI said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had dropped by USD 9.985 billion USD 671.625 billion.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: JPMorgan's Sanjay Mookim favors India's large-caps

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: In the current market scenario, Sanjay Mookim, Head of India Equity Research at JP Morgan believes that given India's status as a duration asset with multi-year earnings growth potential, 'investors can happily buy a bunch of 'largecaps' and wait patiently for earnings to compound'.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: India Back In Global Top Five Stock Markets As Taiwan, South Korea Fall Below $5 Trillion

The reshuffle comes after sharp profit-booking in Taiwanese and South Korean equities, particularly in technology and semiconductor stocks that had rallied strongly earlier this year on optimism around artificial intelligence (AI).

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: HDFC Securities outlines preferred stocks, sectors

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Devarsh Vakil, Head of Prime Research at HDFC Securities said that the Indian rupee gave up its intraweek gains to end marginally weaker at 94.40 against the US dollar, compared with 94.33 in the previous week.

The IMD had projected aggregate seasonal rainfall (June-September) at 90% of the Long Period Average, placing it firmly in the "below normal" category. El Nino threatens to push food inflation higher while compressing rural incomes, as per analysts.

Investors would do well to keep these risks in mind and maintain an underweight allocation to stocks with significant exposure to rural income. For now, HDFC Securities favours the BFSI space, with a particular preference for banks.

Recent policy measures by the government and the RBI are expected to attract substantial capital into the country, compress the cost of capital, and create a conducive environment for BFSI earnings growth.

Nifty is facing resistance at the downward-sloping trendline, and a decisive move above 24,262 could trigger further upside towards 24500 and higher, according to the brokerage.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Analysts eye mildly bullish bias on technical indicators

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Overall, the technical setup remains constructive with a mildly bullish bias. However, the market is currently consolidating below a crucial resistance zone, and a decisive breakout above 24,200-24,250 will be necessary to revive stronger upside momentum. Until then, range-bound trade with stock-specific action is likely to dominate. The immediate range for Nifty is expected between 23,800 and 24,250, with a breakout on either side determining the next directional move, according to Choice Broking.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: D-Street analysts expect consolidation with positive bias

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Aakash Shah, Technical Analyst at Choice Broking said that from a technical standpoint, momentum indicators suggest consolidation with a positive bias. Nifty formed a small bearish candle with a long upper shadow on the daily charts, indicating rejection at higher levels and continued supply near overhead resistance.

  • Nifty failed to sustain above the falling resistance trendline connecting the April and June swing highs and also slipped below the 100-day EMA on a closing basis. However, it continues to trade comfortably above its short- and medium-term moving averages, which remain upward sloping.
  • The RSI remained steady at 56.97 with a positive crossover, while the MACD stayed above the signal line despite further contraction in the green histogram bars. This indicates moderation in momentum rather than a reversal of trend.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Analysts see support below 24,000 levels for Nifty 50

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: Hitesh Tailor, Research Analyst at Choice Broking said Nifty 50 has immediate support below 24,000 levels.

On the upside, immediate resistance levels are placed at 24,400 and 24,500. A sustained move above these levels could trigger fresh buying momentum and strengthen the ongoing recovery. On the downside, support is seen at 23,900 and 23,800.

''A breakdown below the 23,800 zone may invite renewed selling pressure and weaken the current technical structure. Considering the prevailing setup, traders are advised to maintain a stock-specific approach while following strict risk management amid continued market consolidation,'' said Taylor.

  • Resistance Levels: 24,400 - 24,500
