Shares of Asian Paints Ltd. and Coal India Ltd. were the top gainers on Thursday, while Tech Mahindra Ltd. and Trent Ltd. were the top laggards on the NSE Nifty 50.
The Nifty ended 207.40 points or 0.93% higher at 22,544.70, while the BSE Sensex closed 609.86 points or 0.83% up at 74,340.09.
Asian Paints was the top gainer in the Nifty as it gained as much as 5.12% during the day and closed 4.68% higher at Rs 2,265 apiece. Coal India Ltd.'s share price rose 4.32% to Rs 384.15 apiece before paring gains to trade at 3.73% higher at market close.
Shares of NTPC Ltd. soared over 3.86%, while Hindalco Industries Ltd.'s share price jumped over 4% to trade at Rs 687 apiece. Bharat Petroleum Corp.'s shares grew 3.95%.
Shares of Tech Mahindra declined 2.42% to trade at Rs 1,500 before it pared losses to trade 2.35% lower at Rs 1,501 at market close. Bharat Electronics Ltd.'s shares fell 1.12% to trade at Rs 281 apiece.
It was followed by Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., which fell as much as 1.2% to trade at Rs 1,909 apiece. Shares of Britannia Industries Ltd. also ended with losses as they fell 1.43%.
