Core sector output growth eased marginally to 3.7% YoY in January 2022 compared with a growth of 4.1% recorded in December 2021. The moderation has been on account of the third wave led disruption in economic activities coupled with a slightly positive base from last year.
The imposition of fresh curbs in January 2022 weighed on industrial and commercial activities during the month leading to muted power sector performance on YoY basis.
Further, crude oil production remained in contraction zone for the 50th month in a row in January, weighing on overall core sector performance. However, a better performance across coal and steel sectors limited the downward bias.
