CareEdge Research Report
Despite headwinds from second and third Covid-19 waves, the central government fiscal position has been comfortable in FY22. Fiscal deficit during the eleven-month period (April-February FY22) was contained at 82.7% of the revised estimate owing to improved revenue collections and expenditure rationalisation.
A faster-than expected economic rebound after the second wave coupled with pent-up demand translated into robust tax collections. Another boost came from higher-than-anticipated dividend transfer from Reserve Bank of India.
On expenditure front, focus has been on asset creation to have a multiplier effect on the economy. Consequently, capital expenditure has witnessed a significant increase in FY22 compared with previous years.
