The NSE Nifty 50 Index touched the 10,000-mark for the first time ever in early trade on Tuesday, buoyed by a mostly better-than-anticipated earnings season.

Starting with a base of 100, it took the index 25 years to multiply a hundred times. But now that the milestone has been reached, what should investors expect from hereon? BloombergQuint spoke to analysts to get their opinion on the route ahead.

Will Profit Booking Begin?

The five-digit milestone is most likely to induce profit booking in the market, said 60 percent of the market analysts polled by BloombergQuint.

Possible Underperformers

The pharmaceutical sector emerged as the most likely underperformer with 66 percent of those polled voting for it. The realty sector may be another weak link, the rest said.

The Next Leader

Reliance Industries, given that it is the most likely growth driver, is also pegged to be the next top Nifty gainer, according to the half the people polled.

Where Will The Nifty Head In The Short Term?

The Nifty Index is likely gain another 250-500 points in the short-term, according to 80 percent of the market analysts polled.

Where Will The Nifty Bank Index Head In The Short-Term?

The Nifty Bank Index, comprising 12 of the most liquid and large capitalised banking stocks in the country, is most likely to climb 500-1,000 points in the short term.
