Defence counters, including Bharat Dynamics Ltd., Paras Defence and Space Technologies Ltd., Larsen and Toubro Ltd. and Bharat Electronics Ltd., rose in early trade on Friday, as India-Pakistan tensions escalated.
Over Thursday night, Pakistan launched multiple attacks and resorted to numerous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, which were thwarted by the Indian army, said the Additional Directorate General of Public Information in a post on X.
The army neutralised Pakistan's attempt to attack military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and other locations using missiles and drones.
Twenty-four airports across India remain closed under Operation Sindoor, following Indian armed forces' strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on Friday.
Bharat Dynamics led the gains with a 7.92% rise at Rs 1,569 per share. Paras Defence was up 5.94% to Rs 1,439.90 per share, followed by Bharat Electronics Ltd. shares which were also up 4.77%.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders Ltd. shares were up 2.94% at Rs 1,828.90 as of 09:45 a.m., with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. and Bharat Forge Ltd. following suit at 3.20% to Rs 2,905 and 2.92% to Rs 1,145.90, respectively.
Cochin Shipyard Ltd. also saw a significant rise, climbing 2.57% to Rs 1,480. Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd. recorded a 3.62% increase, reaching Rs 318. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. shares rose by 3.19% to Rs 4,564.
Data Patterns was up 4.21%, while MTAR Technologies climbed 2.47% to Rs 1,429 per share.
Nifty Defence index had seen a significant jump of 3%, reaching 7,085.55 on Friday, as of 9:52 a.m. It opened at 6,879.50.
