(Bloomberg) -- A cocktail gets a final spritz at Mace (No. 10) in Manhattan's East Village.
The annual World's 50 Best Bars list was announced Thursday, with the Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in Manhattan's Financial District taking the top honors after hovering around the prize since 2013. This is the first time a New York City bar has been crowned No.1 in five years. Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami are all represented—a total of 14 American bars, more than any other country.
That said, Europe is still the epicenter of global cocktail culture, with 22 spots on the list ranging from Athens to Stockholm to London. Central Station in Beirut takes the best bar in the Middle East and Africa, with Manhattan in Singapore pulling its weight in Asia. London leads the pack with the most bars per city.
An “academy” of 476 people including esteemed mixologists, eminent historians, and hopeless barflies cast votes for 652 bars.
Below, the full results, with the 2015 rankings in parentheses. "Re-entry" indicates the bar's reappearance in the top 50 (after bumping off the list last year).
