The Indian box office has become a battlefield this March with several highly anticipated movies fighting for their spot. One such movie was sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.

With the ongoing rampage from Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, the sci-fi epic had to be rescheduled for its Indian release.

The Ryan Gosling-starrer, 'Project Hail Mary', officially released on March 20, 2026. It opened with a staggering $140.9 million globally. Being considered the largest debut of the year, Project Hail Mary was delayed for its Indian audience.

The delayed release comes after the record-breaking movie, Dhurandhar The Revenge, has taken the spotlight at the Indian box office. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller discussed Indian cinema and its massive success in recent times.

When mentioned about how earlier Indian films would be rescheduled to accommodate Hollywood releases and how the tables have turned now, Phil Lord laughed and said, "How dare you have your own successful film industry?"

As per Sacnilk reports, Dhurandhar 2 has locked in Rs 210 crore overseas in four days of its theatrical release. Additionally, it is also reported that Dhurandhar 2 had successfully beaten several Hollywood movies at the US box office.

Talking about the growing success of Bollywood films in the US market, Phil Lord said, "I don't need to tell you that often, when you look at the top 10 films in the United States, there would be a Bollywood film. Those movies play in American theatres. Most Americans go What's that', but there is a big audience for it."

Christopher Miller also added on to say, "And it's growing every year. Indian films in America have begun to gain broad cultural relevance, starting with RRR.” Praising RRR, he also mentioned how RRR expanded its audience from South Asia to the US. "That really spread out beyond just those seeking it out."

Project Hail Mary is set to release in India on March 26 now. This is after Dhurandhar 2 completes one full week at the box office.
