Congress leader Khushbaz Singh Jattana died in a road accident in Haryana's Sonipat district on Thursday after a truck hit his stationary SUV from behind on the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressway. He was 45.
Jattana and his driver, Parminder Singh, died on the spot. His gunman sustained injuries in the collision. Police said the truck driver fled the scene, but officers have identified the vehicle and started a search.
The incident took place after Jattana's SUV was parked on the expressway due to a flat tyre. The crash has raised concerns over road safety on high-speed corridors, especially for vehicles halted due to breakdowns.
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring expressed grief over Jattana's death. “It is sad and extremely devastating for us that we have lost a dynamic and promising young leader Khushbaz Jattana in a tragic road accident today,” he said.

Who Was Khushbaz Jattana?
Jattana had contested the Punjab Assembly elections in 2017 and 2022 from Talwandi Sabo but did not win. He had been serving as the district Congress president of Bathinda Rural since 2019.
According to data on the MyNeta website, Jattana declared himself a professional advocate during the 2022 Punjab elections. His spouse works as a teacher. He completed a BA from Government College in Chandigarh and an LLB from the Department of Laws, Punjab University.
An analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms of the 2022 Punjab polls showed Jattana had assets worth more than Rs 1.6 crore, including residential property and agricultural land in Sri Muktsar Sahib district.
In May 2019, Jattana faced attempt-to-murder charges along with nine others in connection with firing incidents on polling day in Talwandi Sabo. During the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he held a meeting to oppose the Congress party's choice of candidates, which led to speculation of internal dissent.
NDTV reported that his mortal remains have been kept at Sonipat Civil Hospital. Police are investigating the case and searching for the truck driver.
