Shane Warne, cricketing icon and legendary spinner, has died, the Australian media reported. He was 52.
Warne died of suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand, Fox News and AFP reported citing a statement by Warne's management.
“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” the reports said quoting the statement. "The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course."
Warne is among the greatest bowlers of all time. The leg-spinner took 708 wickets in 145 test matches to become the game's second-highest wicket-taker, after Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan's 800.
World Mourns Warne's Sudden Demise
Several cricketers, cricket veterans as well as other celebrities from around the world expressed their grief and shock on social media.
Shocked, stunned & miserable…
Will miss you Warnie. There was never a dull moment with you around, on or off the field. Will always treasure our on field duels & off field banter. You always had a special place for India & Indians had a special place for you.
Gone too young! pic.twitter.com/219zIomwjBThe game of cricket has lost what I consider a university of leg-spin bowling today. I was inspired by his bowling from the start of my career and it was always a privilege to play against him. My deepest condolences are with Warne's family and loved ones. #ShaneWarne pic.twitter.com/Uht87qDcJ5
I am in agony. Grief. And have no words. I was lucky enough to know him well. The magic will stay forever. #ShaneWarne #GreatestOfHisKind. In disbelief.
Extremely shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Legendary Leg spinner Shane Warne. The world today has lost one of the greatest cricketing heroes of all time.
Life is so fickle and unpredictable. I cannot process the passing of this great of our sport and also a person I got to know off the field. RIP #goat. Greatest to turn the cricket ball. pic.twitter.com/YtOkiBM53q
When people ask me who was the best I ever faced, there was only one name and that was SK WARNE. A man that lived life to the full and a cricketer that perfected the most difficult skill in cricket, leg spin. Fond memories mate, you go well and rip 🙏 #ShaneWarne
