An estimated 89.99% voter turnout was recorded till 5 p.m. in the second and final phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, with polling likely to close at record levels. The Election Commission of India data showed robust participation across districts despite sporadic incidents of violence and isolated tensions.
The phase, covering 142 constituencies across seven districts, is widely viewed as a crucial test for the ruling Trinamool Congress as voting shifts to its traditional bastions in south Bengal and Kolkata.
District-wise, Purba Bardhaman led with 92.46% turnout, followed by Hooghly at 90.34% and Howrah at 89.44%, according to the ECI.
Multiple media reports said that tension briefly flared in the high-profile Bhabanipur seat, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari were present at the same time near a polling booth. Both leaders are contesting from the constituency, making it one of the most closely watched battles.
Other prominent candidates in this phase include state ministers Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, Shashi Panja, and Bratya Basu, as the electoral contest intensifies across the state.
