As the reopening date of the revered Kedarnath Temple approaches, preparations at the high-altitude shrine have entered their final phase, with officials and devotees working around the clock to ready the site. The temple doors are scheduled to open at 8:00 AM on April 22, marking the end of the annual winter closure and the beginning of the new pilgrimage season.

The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has undertaken elaborate arrangements this year, aiming to present the shrine in a "grand and divine" aesthetic. According to a report in ANI, the temple is being decorated with nearly 51 quintals of flowers sourced from across India and abroad.

Rituals, Doli Procession and Final Arrangements

The ceremonial opening will take place with traditional rituals and Vedic chants led by the temple's head priest. Ahead of the reopening, the Panchmukhi Doli (the ceremonial palanquin) of Lord Kedarnath has been making its journey from its winter seat in Ukhimath, halting at key locations before reaching the shrine.

It is scheduled to reach Kedarnath today, April 21, where it will arrive at the temple treasury (Bhandar) in preparation for the ceremonial opening of the shrine. Officials are putting the final touches on logistical preparations, focusing on ensuring smooth access and facilities for the large number of pilgrims expected to visit.

The Char Dham Yatra, which began on April 19, has already seen a steady influx of pilgrims.

Devotee Advisory and Spiritual Significance

Despite the festive preparations, authorities have advised pilgrims to carry adequate winter clothing due to near-freezing temperatures in the region. The reopening of Kedarnath, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, is considered highly auspicious, drawing thousands of devotees each year who seek blessings at the sacred shrine.

The temple is scheduled to remain open until November 11, 2026, after which it will close again for the winter season. As chants and conch sounds mark the reopening, the occasion is expected to attract devotees from across the country and beyond.
