Former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday launched a new political party, the Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS). Kavitha announced her party's name at an event held on the city outskirts.

On Saturday, Kavitha had a private puja at her residence in Hyderabad before travelling to Gunpark to pay floral tributes at the Telangana martyrs memorial. She later addressed a gathering at a convention centre in Munirabad village in Medchal mandal, about 50 km from Hyderabad, where Telangana folk songs played as dancers performed to fast-paced beats.

At the event, Kavitha spelt out her intent to draw support from the BRS vote base while launching sharp attacks on both the BRS leadership and the ruling Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. She also criticised her father, former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, saying he had changed.

"KCR has changed and is no longer the leader he was before," Kavitha said. “This is not our KCR but an ‘un-KCR'". She alleged that Rao has largely withdrawn from public life and "has not been attending to any of the people's issues," reported The Indian Express.

In a post on X, (formerly Twitter), Kavitha wrote, "Remember The Name: Telangana Rashtra Sena. We refuse to back down, come what may. It is time the people of Telangana have their say. We will not let our aspirations decay. Be reduced to ashes if you dare come in our way. Your Time is Done, Our Time is Now." [sic]

Kavitha was suspended from the BRS in September, 2025 after she accused her cousins and party leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar of "tarnishing" her father and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's image over the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project built during the BRS regime. Since her suspension, she has been focusing on public issues under the banner of Telangana Jagruthi, a cultural organisation she heads.

The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), headed by her father, was originally named Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). However, it was renamed as BRS in 2022.
