IMD Weather Update: Mumbai, Thane and several coastal and adjoining districts of Maharashtra are expected to continue witnessing hot and humid weather conditions as well as thundershowers over the next 48 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for April 23, stating hot and humid conditions will persist initially, followed by thunderstorms and rainfall activity the next day.
The department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Kolhapur, among other districts, for April 23-24.
Heat, Humidity Warning For Coastal Districts
On April 23, Thane, Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Raigad are likely to witness “hot and humid conditions, with possibility of light rain or thundershowers toward afternoon or evening,” according to the IMD. A day later, Mumbai and Thane will continue experiencing similar weather, while Raigad and Ratnagiri are expected to receive "thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50kmph) at isolated places,” the weather agency said.

IMD Forecasts Thundershowers
For adjoining and central Maharashtra districts, including Ahilyanagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Sholapur, Beed, Latur among others, the IMD has forecast more thundershowers over the next two days.
In its bulletin, the agency issued a yellow alert and warned that these districts may receive moderate rain showers to “thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places” till April 24.
The remaining districts, such as Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nashik, are expected to receive light rain showers during this period.
Heatwave In Some Pockets
According to the IMD, the mixed weather pattern across Maharashtra this week will also be marked by heatwaves in isolated pockets of some districts. The agency has issued a yellow alert for Amravati and Akola, warning of heatwave conditions on April 24.

Meanwhile, other districts are largely expected to experience dry weather till April 24, the IMD said. These include Jalgaon, Nandurbar and Dhule. No weather warnings have been issued for eastern districts such as Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Nagpur and Gadchiroli for this week.
