The father-in-law and brother-in-law of former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan were detained after a roadside dispute in Mumbai allegedly escalated into an assault, police said.

According to officials, Pathan's father-in-law Khalid Pathan and brother-in-law Umarshad Khan, along with another relative, were taken into custody by the Mumbai Police for allegedly attacking a man following a confrontation.

The incident reportedly unfolded on Saturday when a vehicle driven by a man identified as Yusuf Khan splashed water on Shoaib Khan, a relative of Pathan's in-laws, sparking a heated exchange.

Police said Yusuf Khan was heading to file a complaint when he was intercepted and allegedly assaulted by the group. The episode was captured on CCTV cameras.

In a counter move, Umarshad Khan has also lodged an FIR against the passenger at the same police station.

Investigators allege that the group attacked Yusuf Khan and his family members using bamboo sticks and baseball bats. During the assault, Yusuf Khan's brother Salman suffered a fractured arm, while his uncle Zaki Ahmed sustained serious injuries.

"My brother, Yusuf, and I were returning from dinner when some mud splashed onto a man named Shoaib," said Salman while speaking to NDTV. "We stopped the car and apologised but Shoaib refused to listen and instead broke our car's windshield."

"When my father and I were taking my brother to the hospital, a group of eight to nine men, armed with weapons, emerged and began attacking us. They assaulted the three of us."

A local court is set to hear arguments on the bail applications of the accused on Wednesday, while police continue to probe the sequence of events surrounding the altercation. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
