Karnataka will increase milk prices by Rs 4 per litre from April 1, Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna announced on Thursday.

With this revision, Nandini milk will be priced at Rs 46 per litre, making it more competitive with rates in other states, it said in a release.

Currently, milk prices stand at Rs 52 per litre in Kerala and Maharashtra, Rs 53 in Gujarat, Rs 55 in Delhi, and Rs 58 in Telangana. Despite the increase, Nandini milk remains among the more affordable options compared to other states, according to the release.

The Karnataka Milk Federation stated that the price hike comes in response to rising production costs and demands from farmers. Karnataka Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh had earlier indicated that farmers were seeking a Rs 10-per-litre hike due to increasing expenses. Earlier, KMF Chairperson Bheema Naik had also hinted at a possible price hike.

KMF has also announced plans to expand its presence in North India, PTI reported on Thursday. It will soon introduce 'Nandini' cow milk in Haryana, adding to its existing presence in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Delhi. KMF's North India Head Amit Singh stated that a meeting was held with distributors to strengthen the brand's distribution network.

As part of its expansion strategy, KMF has launched the 'Har Ghar Nandini' campaign to boost awareness. Nandini cow milk is co-packed at the Sasni plant in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, which has a processing capacity of 1.5 lakh litres per day, and at the Rohtak plant of Haryana Cooperative Federation, which can process and pack 1 lakh litres per day.
