Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appointed former Enforcement Directorate chief Sanjay Kumar Mishra as a full-time member of the Economic Advisory Council with the rank of secretary, according to an official release.

The EAC-PM is an independent body that advises on economic and other affiliate problems to the Union government, particularly to the prime minister.

Presently, the EAC-PM includes Suman Bery as the chairperson, Sanjeev Sanyal and Shamika Ravi as members, Rakesh Mohan, Sajjid Chinoy, Neelkanth Mishra, Nilesh Shah, TT Ram Mohan and Poonam Gupta as the part-time member.

In 2018, Sanjay Mishra was appointed as the director of the probe agency for two years but was provided with multiple extensions by the government.

However, in 2023, Mishra resigned from his post following the Supreme Court's intervention. During his time in office, Mishra increased investigations into several former ministers and influential leaders. The agency filed around 4,000 cases and carried out over 3,000 searches.
