Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted India's push for self-reliance, stressing the government's focus on shipbuilding and semiconductor manufacturing, underlining the 'Make In India' vision.

Speaking after inaugurating the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Noida, Modi said, "The government is putting a lot of effort under 'Make In India' initiative. We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India."

Modi noted that Uttar Pradesh is poised to empower the nation with a semiconductor facility. "The government has decriminalised many such rules under which cases were filed against people for making even smallest of mistakes in business," he noted.

Modi said, despite geopolitical disruptions and uncertainty, India's growth remains attractive. He called for increasing investment in research and innovation. "Every product that can be made in India should be made in India," he said.

On GST

Regarding recent structural reforms in GST, Modi said these would give new wings to India's growth story. "Tax burden on people will ease further as India's economy gains more strength and asserted that reforms in GST are an ongoing process," he said.

He highlighted the measures taken by the government, including no income tax on individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually and the GST 2.0 reforms, and stated that these initiatives will result in more savings in the hands of the people.

On Defence Sector

Modi further said the country is developing a vibrant defence sector, creating an ecosystem where every component bears the mark of 'Made in India.'

He emphasised that India's defence forces want ‘swadeshi' and that they want to decrease dependency on other countries. "Uttar Pradesh is playing a big role in this,” Modi said.

Production of the AK-203 rifles will soon begin in a factory set up in Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with Russia. Meanwhile, production of several weapons, including BrahMos missiles has already started, he said.
