The Competition Commission of India is actively contributing to free-trade-agreement negotiations, particularly in shaping chapters related to competition, Chairperson Ravneet Kaur told NDTV Profit in an exclusive interview.

"FTAs today routinely include dedicated chapters on competition, and the CCI is involved in negotiating these sections," she said, citing the India-UK FTA as one example where the CCI is playing a direct role. "We will continue to contribute to competition chapters in all upcoming FTAs."

On the domestic front, Kaur addressed growing scrutiny over the quick-commerce sector.

She said the CCI was working on clear guidelines around cost of production to bring uniformity in assessing competitive practices. "These guidelines will ensure consistency in how cost is determined by the commission and will help us assess whether any anti-competitive behaviour, such as deep discounting or predatory pricing, is occurring in the sector," she explained.

On the Jaggi brothers and Gensol matter, Kaur clarified that the case is outside the CCI's jurisdiction. "We are not involved in the Gensol investigation. SEBI has made a reference to the National Financial Reporting Authority and a preliminary examination is currently underway," she added.
