India reported its highest single-day Covid-19 tally since May last year as cases continued to surge across states.
The country reported 1.41 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry's 8 a.m. update. There were 40,895 recoveries and 285 deaths during the same period.
Active cases have grown multifold in a week as a new wave of the pandemic gripped India. The country now has 4.72 lakh active cases, up from around 77,000 in the last week of December.
That said, vaccination coverage has also continued to improve in the country even though the year-end target of inoculating all adults was not met. The vaccination drive crossed the 150-crore mark on Friday.
