Mumbai's civic body has reserved 3,343 rooms in 88 hotels in the city to quarantine Indians who were stranded across the world and would be brought back in special aircraft in phases.

These 88 hotels includes two- / three- / four- / five-star hotels, apartment hotels and Oyo budget hotels, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in a statement.

India will back its citizens with commercial aircraft, military transport planes and naval warships, according to a Bloomberg report. The first phase of the drive is estimated to help about 1.8 million Indian citizens, the report said.

A total of 14,800 Indians will return from 12 different countries through 64 flight trips, the statement said. “Out of this, about 1,900 Indians will arrive in Mumbai from seven planes. They will return to Mumbai from Bangladesh, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, the U.K. and U.S.”

If a person tests positive for Covid-19 during the quarantine period, they will be admitted to the hospital, the statement said.
