Twitter chief financial officer Anthony Noto on Monday accidentally posted a tweet about a potential acquisition. It seems Mr Noto had intended it as a private or direct message to one of his colleagues at Twitter.

"I still think we should buy them. He is on your schedule for Dec 15 or 16 -- we will need to sell him. I have a plan," Mr Noto's tweet read, which he later deleted. But not, before people saved screenshots of Mr Noto's tweet.

The micro-blogging site was abuzz with jokes about the Twitter CFO's faux pas. Mr Noto joined Twitter as its CFO in July. He has over 9,000 followers on Twitter.

Many also started speculating about the potential acquisition. Technology website re/code listed out some of the companies that could be on Twitter's acquisition radar. Selfie app - Shots, photo and video app - Storehouse, anonymous social app - Secret, were some of the companies that Twitter could be looking to acquire, the technology site reported.
