Samsung Electronics' Chairman Lee Kun-hee
The Supreme Court has asked handset maker Samsung Electronics' Chairman Lee Kun-hee to surrender in a $1.4 million (or Rs 8.4 crore at 1 dollar=60 rupee) cheating case. Mr Kun-hee, a South Korean billionaire, has to surrender before the Ghaziabad court within six weeks, the top court has ruled.
Mr Kun-hee can seek a bail after surrendering at the local court, judges said.
The Ghaziabad trial court had first issued a non-bailable warrant against Mr Kun-hee in 2012 after which Samsung's boss had approached the Allahabad High Court for relief.
The High Court declined to quash the case and termed Mr Kun-hee an absconder and a fugitive. The company then moved the Supreme Court against this order, where it failed to get any relief.
