Nykaa's Falguni Nayar Tops Hurun India's Women Self-Made Entrepreneur List

The self-care industry accounts for both the richest and youngest self-made women entrepreneurs, while tech-platforms earned most of the businesswomen their place on the list.

Falguni Nayar, the founder and chief executive officer of Nykaa tops the IDFC FIRST Private Banking and Hurun India's 'Top 200 Self-Made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2024'. With with a market cap of Rs 56,600 crore, the beauty and wellness product marketing website was founded in 2012.

Nayar holds her place with a 30% increase since last year. At the age of 50, while at the peak of her career as MD of Kotak Mahindra Capital, she left the financial services company in 2012, and founded Nykaa. The beauty product company's portfolio spans over 1,000 brands, catering to makeup, skincare, hair care, fragrances, bath and body products, as well as luxury and wellness items for both women and men.

Neha Bansal, the co-founder of Lenskart, closely follows with equity value of Rs 41,800 crore. The eyewear business was foundered in 2010 and primarily operates from Gurugram.

Kavitha Subramanian holds the third place with her trading platform, Upstox. With equity value of Rs 28,200 crore, the Delhi-based company was founded in 2009. OfBusiness, the credit procurement platform, earns Co-Founder Ruchi Kalra fourth place on the list. The net worth of the Gurugram-based company founded in 2015, stands at Rs 41,600 crore.

Ghazal Alagh, founder of Mamaearth, holds her place in the list with equity value of Rs 15,500 crore. The Gurugram-based company was foundered by Alagh in 2016. Ghazal is also the youngest in the list, making the self-care industry account for both the richest and youngest women entrepreneurs.

In sixth place is Ruchi Deepak, who co-founded Acko Insurance in 2016. The Bangalore-based company is currently valued at Rs 12,600 crore. Further Srividhya Srinivasan, founder of Amagi Media Labs ranks seventh in the self-made entrepreneurs list. The company worth Rs 11,600 crore is based in Bengaluru.

Naiyya Saggi's Rs 10,000-crore worth company, MyGlamm earns her a place on the list. Saggi's Mumbai-based company was founded in 2015. Pramad Jandhyala holds the next position with Latent View Analytics, an AI based fintech platform. The Chennai-based company is valued at Rs 9,800 crore.

Mabel Chacko and Deena Jacob who are co-founders of Open, a neobanking platform based in Bangalore. Their joint venture worth Rs 8,300 crore have put the fintech innovators on the list. With another info tech-based data platform, Rajoshi Ghosh earns a place in the list with Hasura. The Bangalore-based company's equity value stood at Rs 8,300 crore.

Within India's Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2024, women make up 4.9% of the total co-founders, while the 2024-edition of the Hurun India Rich List included 6.04% women.
