NSE logs Rs 20,442-crore trading volume in equity segment

National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday said it has recorded one of the highest trading volumes - Rs 20,442.55 crore in its equity segment and Rs 3.77 lakh crore in equity derivatives trading.

In contrast, volume on the BSE was just Rs 2,585.81 crore in the cash segment, while trading volume logged Rs 20,501.50 crore in the 'futures and options' category.

Bank Nifty derivatives on the NSE recorded their highest volumes at Rs 40,630 crore. Of these, Nifty options stood at Rs 33,902 crore.

NSE bond futures (interest rate futures) had witnessed volumes of Rs 1,785.47 crore - highest volumes since their launch in January this year.

Various factors such as expiry of the derivative contract on Friday, and some movement in yields and activity as the financial year ends on March 31, could be possible reasons for surge in trading volumes in futures.
