Kia India Pvt. Ltd. on Wednesday said its sales increased 69% year-on-year to 18,718 units in May 2022. The company had dispatched 11,050 units a year ago.

The Indian subsidiary of the South Korean carmaker sells five models in the country, including the Seltos SUV, Sonet Compact SUV, Carnival and Carens MPVs, and the recently launched EV6 -- an electric car.

The Sonet became the highest contributor to the company's overall sales with 7,899 units, followed by Seltos (5,953 units), Carens (4,612 units) and Carnival (239 units), according to a statement. The company also sold 15 EV6 units last month to dealerships as display cars.

The company said its sales stood at 97,796 units in the first five months of 2022. It has sold 4.5 units since launch in India. That includes 1.5 lakh units of the Sonet compact SUV.

"We are happy to sustain our sales momentum with yet another strong sales performance," Hardeep Singh Brar, Kia India's vice president and head of sales and marketing, said in the statement. "We are growing at 19% plus, which is higher than the industry average growth rate, even when supply-chain issues plague the entire auto industry."

As part of its commitment to providing sustainable mobility solutions, Kia India said it will be launching the EV6 on June 2. The automaker started bookings for the electric vehicle on May 26 in select dealerships.
