HUL investors approve Sanjiv Mehta's appointment as managing director, CEO

FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever (HUL) said on Thursday its shareholders have approved the appointment of Sanjiv Mehta as its managing director and chief executive for a period of five years. The decision was arrived at via postal ballot.

"Shareholders have approved appointment of Sanjiv Mehta as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company for the period of five years with effect from 10 October 2013, with majority of 99.52 per cent votes," the company said in a statement.

In July, HUL had appointed Sanjiv Mehta, chairman of the North Africa and Middle East operations at Unilever, as MD and CEO of the company with effect from October 1.

Mr Mehta replaced Nitin Paranjpe who will take up a global role at parent Unilever and become president of home care at HUL.

He will also be responsible for the South Asia cluster which includes India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

HUL, which employs over 16,000 people in India, markets various brands including Lux, Lifebuoy, Surf Excel and Pepsodent.
