New Delhi: Over 200 senior central governmentĀ officers have been tasked with monitoring of district-levelĀ implementation of GST or Goods and Service Tax with a focus onĀ resolving difficulties faced by consumers.Ā The government has clubbed each district of the countryĀ in 166 clusters, aligning them with the administrativeĀ divisions of the central revenue department, according to a governmentĀ notification issued on Tuesday.Ā Each of these clusters have been assigned to officersĀ ranking joint secretary and above.
The officers have been asked to monitor availability ofĀ essential commodities and retail price trends.
"Specific instances of price rise have to be reported inĀ real time to consumer affairs and revenue department," theĀ notification said.
A list of 201 officers is given in the notification whoĀ have been asked to monitor implementation of GST in theĀ districts allotted to them with a focus on resolution of anyĀ difficulties being faced by the consumer.
The officers currently posted in various departments ofĀ the central government will monitor implementation of GST inĀ the allocated districts which will include registration ofĀ traders, display of tax rates in shops, awareness camps andĀ publicity, GSTN functioning, proper billing in shops etc.
They have been asked to report sector-specific tax rateĀ related issues to the revenue department.
They will obtain feedback from consumer associations,Ā individual consumers, business associations, districtĀ administration etc on a daily basis.
The officers will activate and utilize channels ofĀ feedback such as call centres, web portals, video conferences,Ā social media etc.
They will monitor calibration of billing software byĀ traders, with special focus on accounting and billing systemsĀ of the public sector undertakings.
