(Bloomberg) -- Before heading out to sea and disappearing later this week, the trailing remains of Florence are bringing rain to New York and the Northeast.
The storm, about 105 miles (169 kilometers) northwest of the city, is forecast to pivot through the day across New England and then out into the Atlantic. Flood warnings stretch from Washington to New York to Boston.
“It's going to skirt coastal New England and be off the coast tonight,” said Amanda Reinhart, a meteorologist at the U.S. Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland. “By Wednesday afternoon, all the East Coast should be in the clear.”
Florence began as a patch of thunderstorms off the African coast before tracing a path west across the Atlantic where it has left death, destruction and a potential ecological disaster, mainly in North Carolina. Now it will return to the Atlantic where it will get swallowed up by a cold front and disappear by Thursday, said Dave Kosier, a forecaster at the U.S. Ocean Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.
