EU companies are looking forward to have tie-ups with Indian companies in the clean energy segment at the two-day conference on renewable energy in Mumbai on September 25-26.

"Energy security, energy efficiency, reduction of carbon emissions are the areas of co-operation between India and European Union," said Joao Cravinho, Ambassador and head of delegation of the EU to India.

The list of European companies which would be participating in the conference is long, he said.

EU is the world's largest promoter of solar and renewable energy. EU companies are extremely keen on bringing in clean and green technology to India, Cravinho said.

Companies from Denmark, Germany, France, Britain, Poland, Austria have shown interest in the renewable energy sector. They are likely to focus on solar and other renewable energy forms.

"The meet will allow India to showcase responsibilities and flag out areas where EU can invest," he said.

"India has plans in energy efficiency, reduction of emissions and energy security in the near future in the five year plan (2012-17) and we have identified the need to focus on energy as an area of enhanced co-operation," he added.

EU has also identified reduction in carbon emission as an area of cooperation. Since 60 per cent of India's energy comes from coal, clean coal is another area where EU firms are likely to focus on.
