Bank Holiday Today: Banks in certain parts of India are scheduled to remain closed today, April 21 on account of Garia Puja and Aizawl Municipal Corporation Election, according to Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar for the fiscal 2026-27.


On Tuesday, April 21, banks in regions such as Agartala and Aizawl will remain closed, hence customers must plan their visit accordingly.


Garia Puja 2026


Garia Puja is celebrated primarily by the indigenous communities of Tripura, Northeast India, which typically falls in the month of April. It honours Baba Garia, the deity of wealth, livestock, and prosperity and marks the beginning of the new agricultural cycle.

General Election To Aizawl Municipal Corporation 2026


The election for the 19-ward Aizawl Municipal Corporation in Mizoram will take place on Tuesday, April 21, while counting will be held on April 27.

When Are Banks Closed?


The central bank designates bank holidays in various parts of the country primarily to observe national, religious and regional occurrences. Apart from such observances, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, along with Sundays of every month.

April 2, Thursday - Maundy Thursday

April 3, Friday  - Good Friday

April 14, Tuesday - Ambedkar Jayanti, Bihu, Tamil New Year etc.

April 15, Wednesday - Bengali New Year, Bohag Bihu, Himachal Day

April 16, Thursday - Bohag Bihu

April 20, Monday - Basava Jayanti, Akshaya Tritiya

April 21, Tuesday - Garia Puja

April 23, Thursday -  General Elections to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly
