Are banks open today, May 16?

According to RBI guidelines, public and private sector banks remain operational on the first, third and fifth Saturdays, while branches stay closed only on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. This means customers can avail physical banking services at bank branches today unless a state-specific holiday has been declared.

However, it is important to note that banks in Sikkim will remain closed today on account of Sikkim State Day. The day, celebrated annually on May 16, commemorates Sikkim's integration with the Indian Union in 1975, when it became the country's 22nd state.

Customers are advised to verify local holiday schedules in their respective states to avoid inconvenience while planning branch visits or important banking transactions.

When to visit banks to avail physical banking services?

Customers visiting bank branches should note that physical banking services are generally available for six hours on working days. Most banks operate from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM for customer transactions.
