Bajaj Auto Sales Rise 1% In October As Exports Continue To Drag

Bajaj Auto Ltd.'s sales rose 1 percent in October, ending four months of year-on-year sales declines. However, exports fell for the thirteenth month in a row.

Total sales rose to 3,56,168 vehicles from 3,52,822 vehicles in October 2015, the company said in an exchange filing.

Motorcycle sales dropped marginally to 3,07,892 vehicles compared to 3,08,733 vehicles earlier, while commercial vehicle sales grew 9 percent to 48,276 vehicles.

Exports Continue To Drag

Exports fell 8 percent to 1,17,387 vehicles compared to 1,27,645 vehicles last October. Bajaj hasn't managed to deliver year-on-year growth in exports since September 2015.

While exports of motorcycles fell 11 percent to 94,895 vehicles, exports of commercial vehicles grew 7 percent to 22,492 vehicles.

Domestic Demand Picture

  • Motorcycle sales grew 5 percent to 2,12,997 vehicles compared to 2,02,042 vehicles.
  • Commercial vehicle sales grew 11 percent to 25,784 vehicles compared to 23,135 vehicles.
  • Overall domestic sales grew 6 percent to 2,38,781 vehicles compared to 2,25,177 vehicles last year.
