What Are The Epstein Files? Sex-Trafficking Investigation At The Centre Of Musk’s Allegations Against Trump
Musk did not provide any reason for his claims or mention if he had access to unreleased files linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein.

The war of words between Tesla chief Elon Musk and Donald Trump escalated on Thursday with the billionaire claiming that the US President was named in the Epstein files, reigniting a conspiracy theory. The Epstein files refer to the material found during the investigation of the late Jeffrey Epstein, a child sex-trafficking offender, including the names of his associates and clients.
Once known for his close relationship with Trump, Elon Musk slammed the sweeping spending and tax-cut bill by the US government, calling it a “disgusting abomination”. Trump responded to Musk’s criticism of his “Big Beautiful Bill,” leading to both openly targeting each other.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called Musk’s claim “an unfortunate episode” in a statement to CNN. “This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again,” she said.
Who Was Jeffrey Epstein And What Are The Epstein Files?
Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and serial sex offender. He was accused of raping multiple young girls as well as trafficking minors for top politicians, businessmen, and celebrities. Dozens of women alleged that Epstein coerced them to provide sexual services to him and various high-profile guests at his residences in New York, Florida and New Mexico, as well as his private Caribbean island.
A probe in the mid-2000s by the Florida Police revealed that Epstein had sexually abused and assaulted 36 girls, with some of his victims as young as 14. He was convicted in 2008 after pleading guilty on two counts. However, the financier served only 13 months in prison before he was released, reportedly due to a controversial plea bargain.
In July 2019, he was arrested again. This time, he was accused of sex-trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. While the trial was underway, the serial sex offender died by suicide in a US prison in August, leading to conspiracy theories about the lack of transparency around his demise.
The material found during the investigation of Epstein includes contact lists, chats and call records, names of his clients and associates and other data. The US government has released only select documents so far since Trump came to power.
In February this year, a document by the US Department of Justice revealed that Epstein's contact list included US President Donald Trump, his former wife Ivana and daughter Ivanka Trump. Michael Jackson, actor Alec Baldwin, and film producer Harvey Weinstein were also mentioned in the documents. Other high-profile names were former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, musician Courtney Love, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, supermodel Naomi Campbell, former Secretary of State John Kerry, and actors Dustin Hoffman and Ralph Fiennes.
Trump was also named in the flight logs of Epstein alongside Bill Clinton, actor Kevin Spacey and Prince Andrew. However, many details have not been revealed to the public. Any information on alleged links of these personalities to Epstein has not been revealed as well.
