Former US President Joe Biden's prostate cancer has spread beyond his bones and is causing significant pain, his son Hunter Biden said in an interview with the BBC.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden told BBC's “Newsnight”, according to a video posted online on Friday. “It's very painful and it's very debilitating in many respects.”
Biden revealed in May 2025, less than four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer.
His office said at the time that the cancer had already spread to his bones.
The former president's condition has since required ongoing treatment. A Biden spokesman said in October that he was undergoing radiation treatment and hormone therapy.
Hunter Biden's latest comments offer a fresh update on the former president's health, which has remained a subject of public attention since and during his presidency.
Biden was the oldest person to win the US presidency when he was elected in 2020. During his 2021-2025 presidency, his physical health and mental acuity came under scrutiny, particularly as he sought a second term.
Despite his health challenges, the 83-year-old has continued to make occasional public appearances. He attended the dedication of Barack Obama's presidential library in Chicago in June; Biden also served as Obama's vice president from 2009 to 2017.

Biden's post-presidency schedule also includes the release of his presidential memoir, which is scheduled to be published on Nov. 17.
His latest health update comes as Biden remains largely out of the political spotlight following his departure from the White House, while his family has continued to provide occasional updates on his condition.
