Russia has decided to discharge all Indians working in the Russian army following the discussion that took place between President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to Russia, according to reports by NDTV.
Dozens of Indians are stranded in the war zone as they claim to have been tricked into taking up the fighting role, along with two Indians who died while fighting for Russia against Ukraine.
In a private dinner with Putin, Narendra Modi raised this issue, and Moscow agreed to release all the Indians serving in their army, reports said.
Earlier this year, a viral video showed a group of men wearing army uniforms in Punjab and Haryana. They claimed to be misled and forced to fight the war against Ukraine.
In March, the Indian government firmly condemned this act and requested their early discharge from the Russian army. The Russian authorities have also commented on this issue and have taken action against the agents who recruited them using false pretexts and promises.
PM Modi landed in Russia to attend the 22nd Indo-Russian summit in Moscow and to hold bilateral talks with Putin. This visit marks Modi's first visit to the country since the start of the Russia- Ukraine war.
Russia's First Deputy PM Denis Manturov received him at the airport.
Modi and Putin will evaluate bilateral relations between the two nation, including sectors such as defense, investment, energy collaboration, education, culture, and people-to-people connections, during the upcoming annual India-Russia summit, as stated by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra last Friday.
The two leaders will also exchange views on 'regional and global developments of mutual interest,' Kwatra stated during a media briefing prior to Modi's visit to Russia for the summit.
