Sajjan Jindal wants the Narendra Modi-led government to return to power because of its “spectacular track record” and the promise of big reforms in the future.

“I believe in continuity. And in the last four-and-a-half years the government has had a fairly good run. I rate them 7 out of 10,” Jindal told BloombergQuint on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “Having given five years to run the country, for next five years I feel that he [Modi] must be prepared to do some big reforms.”

Jindal, who heads India's largest steelmaker JSW Steel Ltd., said a highlight of this government was good governance. “In our country if you don't have any scam and you run the government cleanly, it is a big deal.”

He praised the government's initiatives such as the goods and services tax, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act, low-cost housing and establishing set economic goals. Jindal said now the Modi administration should do achieve objectives that it couldn't in its first term.

“Government gave good governance for last five years. Now they are waiting to do things in second term such as strategic disinvestments which should have been done in the first term but didn't happen.”

Jindal also lauded Modi's global presence. “He is being treated as one of the global leaders along with like President of China. You need someone to get up and get counted.”
