Google’s Year In Search 2024 report highlights India’s diverse recipe searches, blending global cocktails like Pornstar Martini with traditional favourites like Mango Pickle and Ugadi Pachadi.

With nearly one-third of December already behind us, 2024 is steadily drawing to a close. The year has been filled with several historic events worldwide and will surely be remembered for years to come. While we wait to say goodbye to the year that saw a plethora of events, Google has unveiled its Year In Search data, revealing what Indians searched on its engine this year. 

“This year, India's searches spanned a fascinating spectrum—a vibrant mix of sports fervour (IPL to Olympics) and entertainment love across languages (Stree 2 to K-dramas), also exploring indie music hits (Nadaaniyan fan, anyone?), ‘demure and mindful” (and hilarious!) memes, and quirky (or Pookie!) lingo,” Google said in a blog.

Year In Search 2024: Recipes Indians Looked For

Indians searched for a wide range of recipes on Google this year. 

“This year, India's culinary curiosity was evident in the diverse range of recipes we searched for. Traditional favourites like mango pickle and Ugadi Pachadi shared the spotlight with global cocktails like the Pornstar Martini cocktail and the Flat White and regional specialities like Chammanthi and Onam Sadhya,” Google said in its blog.

Year In Search: Top 10 Recipes Here are the top 10 recipes India looked for in 2024, as per Google’s Year In Search data.

  1. Pornstar martini recipe: The popular cocktail got the first rank in terms of the recipes we searched for. Pornstar martini, a cocktail invented in London, is a passion fruit-flavoured drink made with vodka, Passoã, passion fruit juice and lime juice.

  2. Mango pickle recipe: Indians’ love for pickles is not unknown to the world and mango pickle took the second spot in the most searched recipes category.

  3. Dhaniya panjiri recipe: The third rank was taken by Dhaniya Panjiri, which is traditionally made during Janmashtami as part of Lord Krishna’s ‘bhog’. This healthy dish is made with dhaniya powder, ghee, sugar and nuts and seeds.

  4. Ugadi Pachadi recipe: Ugadi pachadi is a traditional festive drink made during Telugu New Year. It is made of neem flowers, raw unripe green mango, tamarind, jaggery, pepper powder, coconut and salt – representing six different tastes.

  5. Charnamrit recipe: Charanamrit is consumed as a blessing from God’s “charan” or feet. It is made using milk, curd, honey, ghee, jaggery and tulsi leaves among others. 

  6. Ema Datshi recipe: Ema datshi, a Bhutanese dish made of cheese and slit green chillies, gained popularity after actor Deepika Padukone called it her favourite dish.

  7. Flat White recipe: A type of coffee, flat white is known for its strong taste and is popular among coffee lovers. It is made using espresso and steamed milk and is stronger than a latte.

  8. Kanji recipe: Kanji is a traditional fermented drink made from kokum. It is made with water, black carrots, beetroot, mustard seeds, heeng (asafoetida) and black salt. It is a popular drink during Holi and the summer.

  9. Shankarpali recipe: This is an Indian semi-sweet snack made with flour, ghee, sugar and cardamoms. These bite-sized snacks are popular in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

  10. Chammanthi recipe: Chammanthi – a fresh coconut chutney made with fresh coconut, shallots, ginger, curry leaves, chillies and coconut oil – secured the 10th spot on the list.
