Who Is Sanjog Gupta? Former Journalist Now Appointed As ICC CEO
Currently the CEO of Sports and Live Experiences at JioStar, Gupta will be the seventh person to hold the top post at the ICC.
Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council. He will take over as the seventh CEO of ICC on July 7, replacing Geoff Allardice, the international cricket body announced on Monday.
Currently the CEO of Sports and Live Experiences at JioStar, Gupta will be the seventh person to hold the top post at the ICC.
In this role, Gupta is set to bring over two decades of experience in sports strategy, media and fan engagement. Gupta is credited with playing a key role in the growth of major cricket events like the IPL and ICC events. Gupta began his career as a Delhi-based journalist and rose through different roles across the media industry, eventually becoming the CEO of JioStar Sports in November 2024.
"I am pleased to announce that Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the CEO of the ICC. Sanjog brings extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialisation, which will be invaluable for the ICC," Jay Shah, the ICC chairman, told ANI.
Gupta’s appointment as ICC CEO follows a global recruitment process that began in March 2025. According to the ICC, Gupta was chosen for the role after considering more than 2,500 applicants from 25 countries.
Who Is Sanjog Gupta?
In his latest role, Gupta has been serving as the CEO of Sports at JioStar Network since November 2024. His appointment followed after the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star. Prior to that, he was associated with Star India since 2010.
According to the ICC, Gupta has played a crucial role in developing and executing multi-language, digital-first and women-centric sports coverage.
He began his career in the media industry as a correspondent for The Tribune in the early 2000s. He later worked with leading media houses, such as NDTV, ABP and the TV Today Network. He joined the Star TV network in 2010 and held several key roles over the years before being appointed as the CEO of Sports in October 2020, his LinkedIn profile shows. He served in that role for four years until the merger.
Gupta holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics from Delhi University, which he completed in 2002.
