'Not Stunt Or April Fool's Joke': KitKat Seeks Help To Find Stolen Chocolates, Launches Tracker

Days after a huge shipment of KitKat went missing in Europe, the brand informed on Wednesday that it was "not a stunt, or an April Fool's joke".

"Thank you for your interest in the missing KitKats. But just to clarify, this is not a stunt, or an April Fool's joke. Someone really stole 12 tonnes of KitKats. And we really want to know where they've gone," read a statement on the official X handle of the company.

In order to locate the missing products, it has even created a "Stolen KitKat Tracker" that allows people to check whether their KitKat was from the missing batch.

To check out the missing batch, KitKat has come up with a tracker. It says that a total of "413,793 KitKats have been stolen".

Retailers and wholesalers can identify bars from the stolen shipment by entering the 8-digit batch code found on the back of each bar. This will help them check whether their KitKat was part of the stolen cargo and receive further instructions to alert Nestlé, which owns KitKat.

A few days ago, the company confirmed that "12 tonnes of KitKat products were stolen while in transit between our factory in Central Italy and their destination in Poland."

It stated that the company was working closely with the local authorities as well as supply chain partners to further investigate the matter.

"The good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected," it added.

Earlier, a spokesperson of the company told AFP that “a truck transporting 413,793 units of its new chocolate range has been stolen during transit in Europe.” The statement added that the shipment vanished while en route between production and distribution centres.

“We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat... But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate," read the statement.

Soon after many started speculating on social media that the alleged theft might be an April Fools' joke from the company. However, KitKat has now confirmed that it was "not a stunt."
