Industrialist Harsh Goenka on Tuesday shared the menu of a US-based South Indian restaurant which has given fancy names to regular food items like idli, vada, and dosa.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Goenka wrote, "Who knew vada, idli, and dosa could sound so fancy? With these strange names khaane ka mazaa khatam! Agree?" [sic].
The menu listed idli as "Dunked Rice Cake Delight", medu vada as "Dunked Doughnut Delight", and dosa as a "Naked Crepe." The hefty price tags, converted to rupees, also raised eyebrows. Medu vada costs $16.49 (approximately Rs 1,377), the idli costs $15.39 (approx Rs 1,285) and the dosa is priced at $17.59 (approx Rs 1,470).

South IndiansAgreed. The humble Idli-vada and Dose / Dosai with their western or westernised counterparts. Hope the humble Upma and similar others have been spared.
July 3, 2024Price is so high. Rs. 1300 to 1500 per plate.
July 2, 2024I our country we call it sambar vada, sambar idli and Dosa 😄. It's just adding Indian cousin into a Italian menu 😉
July 2, 2024Why is it that pasta is pasta, pizza is pizza, quesadilla is quesadilla but dosa is crepe, idli is dunked rice cake and soooo on?
July 3, 2024It's sounding fancy, but prices are more fancier. Even for US standard it's exorbitantly costly.
July 2, 2024The restaurant, located in Bellevue, Washington, has been identified as Indian Crepe Co. and according to Uber Eats, they serve "a delightful variety of South Indian cuisine."
In March, Goenka had shared a brief video of an opulent dining experience at the Maharaja of Gwalior's palace. The video showcased a unique tradition – a miniature train delivering food items along a long table set for a grand feast. This extravagant service style captured the attention of viewers, sparking conversation about the bygone era of royalty and the lavish lifestyles of the Maharajas.
