A nationwide mock drill exercise is set to be conducted in 244 cities on Wednesday, in the wake of rising tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22.
The key measures in the mock drill will comprise activating air raid warning sirens and training civilians and students on civil defence strategies for protection during a potential hostile attack.

As per the Ministry of Home Affairs, the exercise will simulate hostile scenarios to test readiness at the local level. It will include:
Sounding of air raid sirens in urban and semi-urban areas
Use of emergency communication systems including radio and hotline links with armed forces
Training of school students, civil volunteers, and residents in basic safety and protective measures
Setting up shadow control rooms to assess command readiness
Switching off power in select areas to practice blackout protocols
Early camouflaging of critical facilities like power stations and refineries
Evacuation drills and rehearsals of localised safety plans

As part of the civil defence mock drill under 'Operation Abhyas,' drills to be conducted across all 22 districts of Haryana at 4 pm. Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi chaired a meeting to review the arrangements.
People have been requested to switch off all lights in their homes from 7.50 pm to 8 pm as a part of the drill.
During the meeting, Rastogi issued directives to all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police regarding the operational aspects of the mock drill.

Four private schools in Kolkata carried out evacuation drills to evaluate students' readiness in the event of an emergency, amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
The drills took place at DPS-Ruby Park, La Martiniere for Boys, La Martiniere for Girls, and Future Foundation School.
A representative from the two La Martiniere institutions stated that the exercises were conducted by the National Cadet Corps wings.

The drill included demonstrations on fire safety protocols, firefighting techniques, procedures to follow during air strikes, and methods for rescuing and reviving injured civilians.

As part of today's nationwide mock drill, the NDMC area in Delhi will experience a blackout from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm.
A mock drill is being conducted at the ISBT in Dehradun as part of Ministry of Home Affairs' orders to conduct a nationwide mock drill today.
Pramod Kumar, superintendent of police said that search and rescue operations are being conducted at ISBT. "There are full chances of a war, and this drill was to teach what to do and what not to," he said.

Mock drills were conducted at several places in Arunachal Pradesh to check the preparedness of security agencies, officials told PTI.
The drills took place in state capital Itanagar, Hayuliang (Anjaw), Bomdila (West Kameng) and the border district of Tawang, covering four key locations – Khandro Drowa Zangmo District Hospital, ANM School, LD Public School and Masang Dung Rhuemey.
In Aalo, located in West Siang district, the mock drill will take place at New Market area from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand stated that the drill helped them identify lapses and areas for improvement.

A blackout was carried out at the BARC residential complex in Anushakti Nagar at 8 pm as part of the drill, while a similar blackout scheduled at Tarapur in Palghar district was cancelled, a senior officer told PTI.
Following the blaring of a siren, residents of the BARC complex were asked to evacuate their quarters to participate in the exercise. Officials sensitised them about the necessary precautions to take during emergency situations.

Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22, India conducted a nationwide mock drill exercise in 244 cities on Wednesday.
Mock drills were conducted across multiple locations, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. These exercises enabled authorities to simulate hostile scenarios and assess local-level preparedness.
The exercise entailed sounding of air raid sirens in urban and semi-urban areas, training of school students, civil volunteers, and residents in basic safety and protective measures as well as evacuation drills and rehearsals of localised safety plans among other activities.
Several locations across Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Cross Maidan, experienced mock drills, while renowned landmarks such as Rashtrapati Bhavan, North and South Block, and Akshardham Temple, Statue of Unity experienced blackouts.
